What’s New This Week
The GOA will host the 47th Biennial National Clergy-Laity Congress with the theme, “In Christ We Are One,” in early June 29-July 5, 2024, in San Diego, California. The Fully Human Ministry was chosen to be featured for a panel presentation at the Congress, including two members of the Fully Human steering committee who volunteer their time, expertise and efforts to serve families with disabilities in the church.Panelists’ travel and lodging fees are not provided however, and so we need help to make their presence possible.Having members of the panel present in-person in San Diego is critical to create the most impactful and far-reaching impression to all who attend the workshop. Their presence will speak loudly this message: People with disabilities are fully human, very capable, and have many gifts to offer the Body of Christ, but physical and ideological barriers for inclusion need to be revealed and addressed.Summer Kinard is a well-known advocate for Autistic persons and her theological work to create accessible worship and learning in churches is ground-breaking.Justin Heard, himself blind, and a theologian and advocate for the blind, specializes in making places of worship physically accessible and providing tools for fuller participation in liturgy. We hope to raise a total of $4,000 to cover both of their travel and lodging expenses.Every little bit adds up quickly! Please consider donating to this worthy project, so that we can grow more fully as a Body of believers into the true Way we are called to as Christians — “In Christ We Are One.”
Fr. Alex speaks with Rev. Dr. George Parsenios, professor of New Testament at Holy Cross School of Theology, on the biblical and theological understanding of God the Father, helping to reorient us to a healthier relationship with our heavenly father and earthly fathers.
Fr. Alex led a retreat at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox in Wheeling, WV, this past weekend titled: Generation to Generation: Sharing the Orthodox Faith with our Children, Grandchildren, and Godchildren. If you are interested in scheduling a retreat or workshop for your parish contact us today!
