What’s New This Week
In honor of Deaf Awareness Month we’d like to highlight a worthy project our office is working on with the Assembly of Bishops. The Accessible Liturgy Project seeks to create an official translation of the Divine Liturgy into American Sign Language. To date, approximately $15,300 has been raised of the $30K needed. Every donation gets us closer to providing Deaf and other ASL users with invaluable resources and fuller participation in worship. To donate directly visit: https://www.assemblyofbishops.org/contact/support and select “Accessible Liturgy Translation” under “Gift Designation”.
This special video edition of the Fully Human podcast features the experiences of Irene Tunanidas, an accomplished educator and advocate for the deaf. Irene shares familial, educational, and community challenges and blessings she has experienced from early childhood until the present, as well as her hopes for creating greater support for families in Orthodox communities who experience deafness. Using an ASL interpreter and subtitles, we hope this offering will resonate with many in the deaf community.
