What’s New This Week
Many of us do not know the histories and stories of the people listed in the genealogy of Jesus, which is read every year on the Sunday before Christmas. Would it shock you to find that Christ’s ancestors included murderers, prostitutes, adulterers, and other flawed characters? If we examine the stories of the people in the genealogy of Jesus we may find that they resonate with our own complex and even messy family histories. This advent season we invite you to our new video series, “Finding Our Roots in Jesus’ Family Tree,” with the hope that learning more about these biblical figures will encourage all of us to experience more deeply the redeeming love of Jesus this Christmas season. Videos will air on our Facebook and Instagram page every Monday until Christmas starting next week. Watch intro video here.
In the latest “Time Out for Marriage” Presvytera Kerry Pappas discusses how when you feel the heat start to rise during an argument it’s important to take a step back to gather your thoughts before the feelings turn to anger. Watch here.
When Dr. Lisa Liberatore was faced with an uncertain future for her teenaged son with Autism a few years ago, she, her husband, and their church family met their challenges with patience, love, and innovation resulting in the foundation of two non-profit organizations. Luv, Michael provides meaningful employment for adults with Autism, and USAutism Homes operates in partnership with the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Southampton, NY to provide alternative housing opportunities for adults on the Autism Spectrum.
Presvytera Melanie speaks with Dr. Liberatore and Fr. Constantine Lazarakis who share how these ministries developed in partnership with the parish, how individuals and parish families can currently tap into their resources, and their hopes and visions of replicating these ministries throughout our country and beyond. Listen here.
