Dear Friends of the Sacred Arts,
The arts have the power to touch us deep within ourselves. Most of our worship, no matter our background, is set deeply within the arts—involving architecture, visual arts, music, poetry. The arts are where the human heart goes when it wants to dwell in the sacred, when it seeks to praise, to give thanks. The space where beauty and the arts operate within us, the space within which they wield their power, is the space of our spiritual life.
The Institute of Sacred Arts at St Vladimir’s Seminary explores the intersection of human creativity and holiness. Through a curriculum infused with the arts, academic symposia and conferences, and publications and cultural events, we hope to contribute to the work of people and institutions that practice and reflect on the sacred arts, and inspire wider public interest in the relationships between spirituality and creativity. This past year it has been a delight to foster these conversations through our Luminous Podcast, our artist in residence program, the Summer Music Institute, symposia and lectures, and much more.
