I know many of you have been working to help families get connected to food resources. Details regarding a partnership between the Department of Education and Department of Social Services can be found below.
Through a partnership with the CT State Dept of Ed (CSDE) , DSS will be receiving the name, address, and DOB of all children receiving Free Reduced Priced Meals (FRPM).

  • Households do not need to apply or contact DSS to get their benefits.
  • DSS estimates that SNAP benefits will be deposited in EBT accounts beginning in mid-May.
In case you get questions, this is how will families receive this benefit:
  1. If the individual is known to DSS and is receiving SNAP/TANF, their benefits will be added to their existing EBT card
  2. If the individual is known to DSS but not receiving SNAP/TANF, and DSS is able to determine the head of household, an EBT card will be sent to the Head of Household
  3. If the individual is known to DSS but not receiving SNAP/TANF, and DSS is unable to determine the head of household, an EBT card will be sent in the name of the child receiving FRPM
  4. If the individual is not known to DSS, an EBT card will be sent in the name of the child receiving FRPM
This is a voluntary program. A mailer will be sent to each household receiving an EBT card that will inform them about the program, what to do if they do not wish to participate and how to pin their card. A copy of the mailer is attached.

Thanks and have a great weekend!
