His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America will visit Mount Athos and Thessalonikion the occasion of the Feast of Epiphany accompanied by forty pilgrims from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Archbishop Elpidophoros will visit: the Holy Monastery of Xenophontos, where he will officiate at the vigil and the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy for the Feast Day of the Epiphany, as well as the blessing of the waters; the Holy Monastery of Philotheou, where he will attend Divine Liturgy; the Holy Monastery of Pantokrator; Metropolitan of Thessaloniki His Eminence Philotheos at the headquarters of the Holy Metropolis; the Holy Monastery of St. John the Theologian in Souroti, Thessaloniki, where the tomb of St. Paisios lays in the New and the Holy Monastery of Timios Prodromos in Akritochori, Serres. The Archbishop will officiate the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of Sts. Constantine and Helen of Ilioupolis. He will also visit: Pharos Tou Kosmou; the Church of St. Gregory Palamas, where he will concelebrate Divine Liturgy with His Eminence Metropolitan Philotheos at the Holy Metropolis, and will then lay a wreath at the Holocaust Memorial in Eleftherias Square.
At the invitation of the Central Jewish Council, Archbishop Elpidophoros will be the Keynote Speaker at the National Day of Remembrance of the Greek Jewish Martyrs and Heroes of the Holocaust taking place in Thessaloniki. The Central Jewish Council was established by law in 1945, after the end of the Second World War, with the aim of reconstructing the Jewish communities of Greece destroyed by the Nazis. It is a Legal Body under State Law and is under the Ministry of Education & Religious Affairs. Its work focuses on the coordination of the activities of the Jewish Communities and organizations in Greece, the preservation of Jewish cultural heritage and history, as well as the fight against anti-Semitism. The Central Jewish Council is also the official representative body of Jewish Communities and Organizations in Greece and abroad.
