Since our last newsletter, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana for the consecration of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The Third Monastic Synaxis of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America successfully completed its work. This year’s Synaxis took place at the Holy Monastery of the Theotokos, the Life-Giving Spring (Zoodochos Pigi) in Fresno, California, from the 9th to the 11th October, 2023. Wednesday evening, His Eminence arrived in Chicago for the 2023 Clergy-Laity/Philoptochos Assembly.
The Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in America, host the 2023 Athenagoras Human Rights Award Banquet honoring the Prince’s Trust on Saturday, October 21st at the New York Hilton Hotel in New York City. Fordham University’s Orthodox Christian Studies Department presents “Seeking Harmony and Compassion: Pastoral Care and LGBTQ+ Orthodox Faithful.” This conversation about ministering to LGBTQ+ Christians includes a panel review of the recently published books Orthodox Tradition and Human Sexuality and Gender Essentialism and Orthodoxy: Beyond Male and Female, and a discussion of the opportunities, challenges, and resources for ministry among LGBTQ+ faithful.
With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey, the Northern New Jersey Youth Commission of the Metropolis of New Jersey held the annual Mr. and Miss GOYA Pageant. The Metropolis of Detroit announced their 2024 Summer Camp programs dates. In the Metropolis of Atlanta, you can register for their Winter Youth Rally and Autumn Southeast Regional OCF Retreat 2023.
