2023 NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
WHERE ARE WE NOW: As of October 2023, the project is 65% -70% complete and most of the exterior work on the structure has been completed.  Within the next few weeks, the building will be completely enclosed with the last doors/windows being installed at this time.  Interior work proceeds albeit at a slow pace relative to the resources on-hand. Metal partitioning has been mostly completed, electrical work and plumbing is proceeding and as funds become available, sheet-rocking will begin.
To date, almost $40,000,000 has been pledged/collected. Initially the expansion was projected to cost $48,000,000, but historic inflation increased that amount by at least $7,000,000. A $10,000,000 construction loan is in place but cannot be accessed UNTIL we bridge the gap between the last $10,000,000 needed to complete the necessary work to be able to open the facility, and the funds already committed. Once we have secured these funds and are thus eligible to access the loan, work will accelerate on the project and construction can be completed in 6-8 months!

This magnificent new facility is so close to being completed and yet cannot because of this shortfall which is relatively small in relation to the almost $40,000,000 which has been raised. Unless we are able to raise the shortfall in the coming months, there is no other option but to take drastic steps including perhaps temporarily shutting down construction which has negative consequences which include increased costs to restart the project.
Hopefully those who have not yet participated in the Capital Campaign will do so and help complete the project. NOW is the time for those who have not yet participated in the Capital Campaign to support the expansion and help bring about its realization which will impact the lives of so many. To participate in the Capital Campaign and view LEVELS OF GIVING & NAMING OPPORTUNITIES visit https://www.stmichaelshomeuniondale.org/. Questions or to make a donation email development@stmichaelshome.org. Or using your cell phone scan QR code below:

PONTOS SOCIETY OF NEW JERSEY

On November 4th, the Pontos Society of New Jersey hosted its annual Dinner-Dance in Brielle (NJ) with the evening’s proceeds to benefit the Expansion Fund of St. Michael’s. The Society honored one of its own, the late Ann Michals who was the dynamic President of the Metropolis of New Jersey Philoptochos Board and also a dedicated member of the Home’s Board of Trustees. We are indebted to the Society for their magnanimity and to Ann’s beloved husband, Jeff, who underwrote the evening’s festivities thus maximizing its proceeds.
ANNUAL NAME DAY GALA

St. Michaels hosted its Annual Name Day Gala at the Metropolitan Club (NYC) on Sunday, November 12th with a sold-out audience in attendance. Held on the 2ndSunday of November, in conjunction with the Feast of the Synaxis of the Archangels and All the Bodiless-Powers (Nov. 8th), this event is an opportunity to celebrate this critical ministry of the Church to the elderly and which this year observes its 65th Anniversary and also to showcase the relocation and expansion project underway in Uniondale. It is also an occasion to raise funds needed to sustain and expand the facility. During the festivities, the Home honors distinguished members of the community who embody and promote the finer qualities and traditions of our Greek Orthodox Heritage. Recipients of the 2023 Archangel Michael Award were Stylianos (Steve) and Angeliki Zervoudis, who in addition to being prominent developers of residential and commercial properties in the New York Metropolitan area, are above all, faithful and generous stewards of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Archdiocese, several parishes as well as notable charities and causes.
While some payables/receivables are still outstanding, the initial tally of the evening’s proceeds which include the Gala itself (sponsorships, tickets sales, donations, raffles & journal ads) and pledges made in conjunction with the event is $475,000!
