Zoom Panel Discussion of Girls’ Participation in the Liturgy

Co-sponsored with Axia Women, this event will focus on integrating girls into our liturgical celebration by addressing this issue from various perspectives—from those who plan and coordinate this ministry, to the perspectives of parents, and to the perspective of clergy on how this ministry has been received in their parishes and its value for the parish.  After the panel presentations, there will be time for discussion and Q&A moderated by Dr. Teva Regule, a liturgical scholar, an expert on lay participation in the liturgy, and a St. Phoebe Center Board Member.

The panel includes:

Anna Kallis, MDiv, Founder of the Myrrh-bearer ministry at St. Peter and Paul.

Kristina Baktis, MPS, LCAT, LPAT, co-founder of a ministry for young girls at her parish.

Andy Nosal, PhD, a parent whose daughter participates in this kind of ministry.

Fr. Peter Baktis, DMin., a parish priest.

Ancient Faith Radio Documentary on Deaconesses

Two St. Phoebe Center Board Members, Dr. Helen Creticos Theodoropoulos and Dr. Carrie Frederick Frost, and one Advisory Board Member, Dr. Valerie Karras, will be featured in a documentary on deaconesses in the Orthodox Church produced by Ancient Faith Radio (AFR). It will be aired on Ancient Faith Live and followed by a live call-in session hosted by John Maddex and Fr. Tom Soroka. A recording of the show will afterwards be available on AFR’s website.

Several Orthodox Christians were interviewed for the documentary, including some who are against the movement to ordain deaconesses today. Neither the St. Phoebe Center nor its board members who were interviewed have control over the editorial decisions or the presentation of the documentary. We hope AFR will faithfully portray the growing movement for deaconesses and that this documentary will be for the glory of God!

We encourage our supporters to listen and engage with the live portion of the show in one (or more) of these ways:

PRAYER TO ST. PHOEBE

Most holy Phoebe, who was found to be worthy of the diaconate; who was Paul’s helper and carried his words to the people of Rome; who is called the lamp of Cenchrea; we now humbly ask that you intercede for us, and pray to Christ our God for us as we discern His will for revival of the ordained female diaconate for the upbuilding of the entire Church today. Pray that we will be blessed and fruitful in our works this day and always, to God’s glory. Amen

We educate and prayerfully advocate for the revival of the
ordained female diaconate to help serve the ministerial needs
of the Orthodox Church and the world today.
